Gutsiest survive despite a State artist difficult, which is exactly what Keith Jarrett did Wednesday night at Symphony Center

For starters, the Hamburg Steinway he usually played to the effect that there is obviously have voiced last week to sound more demure Mozart, Jarrett participants. This prompted him to switch to the United States for a solo concert Steinway, a very sensitive pianist struggling instruments he didn’t know or love very well.

Worse, towards the end of the first semester recital, Jarrett decided to achieve in the instrument for the press with strings to percussion effects. Thus, he attacked with the fourth finger (on the pinky) from his left hand, his manager said after the show. Thus when Jarrett returned to the stage for the second half of the concert, he was holding the ice into the hands of compromised, regularly traveling beyond the stage to get more cold relief for pain, swelling of the fingers.

Despite all this, Jarrett produced some splendid pianism, though not the best. Certainly nowhere near bodied solo work on his latest release, “Rio” (ECM), a live album which is ranked among the greatest of his career. Duration is generally short improvisations in the Centre of Jarrett’s Symphony Orchestra Hall pianist did not reach his suggest independent, the deepest forms of expression. Some solo run about a minute the longest stretch of six and most fall somewhere between.

On the whole, one perceives that Jarrett can develop themes and ideas just as far. Sustainable concentration

Pants on fire: when consumers lying to service providers

Honesty is the best policy? According to a new study in the journal of consumer research, consumers who lied during the service encounter more satisfied than the truth tellers when they get what they want.

“Although we may hope that positive results will be ‘ tainted ‘ for liars because they will feel guilty about their actions, Liars are significantly more satisfied than the truth tellers,” writes author Christina i. Anthony and Elizabeth Cowley (both of The University of Sydney).

The author did a series of laboratory experiments in which participants tell the truth or lie during a conversation with the service provider to pursue the present material. For example, in one experiment, participants answered a number of questions that result in ineligibility for their gifts. The participants know that they are not eligible, but have the opportunity to lie to the study administrator in order to get a prize. The results showed that liars reported more extreme evaluation results from truth tellers. “Liars more satisfied than the truth tellers after favorable results, and much more dissatisfied than truth tellers after the unfavorable results,” the authors explained. The authors found similar results when participants negotiate with service providers and the positive results that can only be achieved with the lie, and when they ask for a refund for a product that falls outside the terms of refund policy.

Why do liars have such extreme reactions? The authors say that because lying is hard work. “Liars lie Because busy, they have fewer mental sumber-daya are available for other tasks. One important task as it involves using feedback from listeners to update one’s expectations about how the conversation forward, “the authors write. “Consequently, the liars more surprised by the final result of the truth tellers, who, in turn, led to a stronger reaction to it.”

The authors test this process by stimulating participants with positive or negative expectations about the outcome and provide feedback during the conversation that is not consistent with their expectations. “While the truth tellers are capable of fixing their expectations based on initial feedback came in, Liars cannot update their expectations, and are therefore less prepared for the result,” the authors write.
